Plan de estudios
Kindergarten in Minnetonka brings learning to life through stories, exploration, creativity and play. In a nurturing classroom community, children build essential academic skills, develop friendships and gain the confidence to try new things.
Learning Through Play and Connection
Play is an essential part of Kindergarten. Small-group exploration, active play and independent choices give children opportunities to imagine, collaborate and work through challenges. Students practice taking turns, sharing ideas and building relationships in a supportive environment. Creativity, communication and problem-solving are woven throughout the day. Children also begin learning how to ask questions, find information and use technology responsibly.
Growing Readers, Writers and Communicators
Our literature-rich classrooms surround children with opportunities to discover the joy of language. Songs, chants, shared reading, literacy centers and writing activities help students connect sounds, letters and meaning while building a strong foundation for reading and writing. Through conversations, storytelling and listening to others, children also learn to express their ideas, ask questions and share what they know.
Big Discoveries for Young Learners
Hands-on science experiments, early engineering challenges, technology and the arts invite Kindergartners to explore how things work. Social studies, science and health lessons help children understand themselves, their communities and the wider world while practicing safe choices and thoughtful decision-making.
In math, students begin with objects they can touch, move, count and compare before connecting those experiences to numbers and symbols. Daily hands-on activities build understanding of number sense, patterns and early computation, helping children make sense of math and apply what they learn.
Kindergartners also begin their journey through Minnetonka’s K–5 computer coding curriculum. With playful, visual tools such as programmable robots and tablet apps, students explore sequences, solve problems and discover how their instructions can make something happen.
Support and Challenge for Every Child
Every child starts Kindergarten with different strengths, experiences and skills. Teachers use small-group instruction in reading, writing and math to meet students where they are and help them take their next steps. Daily routines—including morning meetings, calendar activities and choice time—create a sense of belonging and help children become increasingly independent. Together, these experiences build a classroom community where every learner can contribute, connect and grow.
